Macondo Trio
21 January 2024 E 20:00
Sylvain Debaisieux - saxophone
Federico Stocchi - bass
Angelo Moustapha - drums
MACONDO takes the audience to a place where time is relative, where cycles intertwine and melodies remain anchored in bodies and minds. Musicians come together to share, dialogue and connect. The fusion of energies is transmitted through captivating grooves, repetitive motifs and boundless improvisations. History repeats itself, and is never the same. And things take on their full meaning when the listener, open-minded and attentive, lets himself be carried away by the surging wave of music.
Ola Tunji
28 January 2024 E 20:00
Ornella Noulet - saxophone
Roman Raynaud - guitar
Loic Lengagne - piano
Scott Cizhou Huang - double bass
Egon Wolfson - drums
"The music speaks for itself", said John Coltrane.
The new Ola Tunji quintet is moving in this direction, where musical interplay becomes a powerful and expressive whole.
Its members started playing together before summer 2023 and then united in the passion that each feels towards the spiritual and musical life of Coltrane. A path to follow seemed to form itself, like a vision shared through every feeling.
What they play bring them back to a deeper humanity in the music.

Transfiguring Photograms
11 February 2024 E 20:00
Andrej Thompson - saxophone
Samuel Ber - drums
Piergiorgio Pirro - piano
Nathan Wouters - double bass
For this ensemble one body of work has been created thus far called Embracing Asymmetry which will be recorded in December 2023. The work focuses on the transitional process of improvising between two sound objects. Here the performer is improvising variations of a composed object whilst simultaneously seeking to slowly introduce a new composed element. A photogram is photographic technique that produces a negative shadow image. The transformation of a real object into a shadow is analogous to the transformation from a composed sound object into an improvised variation. Embracing Asymmetry also explores post-colonial identity through the intersection of reality, delusion and the incomprehensible.

Jeroen Van Herzeele, a saxophonist with a powerful and lyrical sound, masters his instrument perfectly, moving the listener to the depths of his soul. Géraud Portal, a double bassist who built his reputation alongside Jacky Terrasson's trio, and more recently alongside the American saxophone legend Gary Bartz. Forest3io creates unique music, composed of original pieces and rearrangements of standards, with each performance."

Umami Quartet
10 March 2024 E 20:00
Our music ranges from dreamy ballads to raw grooves, experimenting with opening up the fixed song structures. Through improvisation and the use of electronics and effects, we try to deconstruct the compositions and thus keep challenging ourselves. This creates a very tactile and delicate interaction between the musicians that results in a unique sound, where the written score becomes just a vague outline of the song.
IBIYEWA
17 March 2024 E 20:00
Born in the corners of Brussels, this band is the brainchild of Angelo Moustapha. Beninese drummer recently arrived in the Belgian capital, Angelo is already a cornerstone of the creative scene, and a protégé of Philip Catherine and Lionel Loueke.
Think of the rhythms of a Beninese master drummer, the dancing harmonies of a Madagascan guitarist, and the melodic improvisations of a Jazz saxophonist in love with the equator. "Here we are" in Yoruba, IBIYEWA is a laboratory born of
encounters in Brussels, at the crossroads of traditional music and creative innovation.

Brussels Jazz Weekend
Lennart Van Praet - vocals, keys
Jeroen Capens - tenor saxophone
PJ Seaux - bass guitar
Louis Favre - drums
Since a good five years, LVP has been growing and harvesting songs at a steady, laid-back pace. They have been performed at times, in various settings, with different musicians, though always occasionally, fleetingly. Now it's time to come home, and dock the spaceship of artistic imagination in a beautiful place. Old camaraderie does not rust, and neither does musical kinship: LVP has rekindled the fire with three top-notch players and close friends, in order to lend a decisive boost to his ripened batch of sing-song-stories. Here's a deep melancholy that refuses to wallow in the modern-day despair of fearfulness, doubt, and identity-craving, but wants to connect and feed the light as well as the darkness through a deeply felt humanity. With an unabating life-force, these songs celebrate fragility and beauty, firmly pleading for hope, love and understanding. Expect to be swaddled in warm sonorities and swayed by a deeply earthed groove, straight from the underbelly.

Dave Gisler Trio (CH)
24 November 2024 E 20:00
Dave Gisler - guitar
Raffaele Bossard - bass
Lionel Friedl - drums
Dave Gisler enjoys an excellent reputation as an idiosyncratic architect of sound on the electric guitar. With the trio, he presents a dazzling array of possibilities for genre-bending music that is at home in jazz, but also draws on rock, punk and noise.
The trio's first recording, "Rabbits on the Run," was released in 2018 on Intakt Records. It laid the track for a musical departure that on the one hand intensified the trio and on the other hand also expanded it to a quartet or quintet.
